Competition: “High School student short story”

The prize winners will be announced and awarded on June 14th (2pm) at the Book presentation: “Hellenic Dreaming – Greek Australian Stories” at Cowandilla Community Room, 175 Sir Donald Bradman Drive, Cowandilla, SA 5033

Submissions are closed. If you are a prize winner, you must be present at the Hellenic Dreaming Book Launch event taking place on Saturday 14 June 2025, 2pm to 5pm at the Cowandilla Community Room, 173 Sir Donald Bradman Drive (cnr Brooker Tce), COWANDILLA. The first prize winner will present their story at this event.

First prize is a trip to Melbourne for two, including flights, accom, meals & a Hellenic Museum visit.Second prize & third prizes – each to the value of $300 and $250.

Photographic Exhibition: “The Greeks of Tashkent”

Παρουσιάζεται από τον Οργανισμό Ελληνοκύπριων Γυναικών Αυστραλίας (SA) Inc. – ΟΕΕΓΑ και υποστηρίζεται από το Ελληνικό Μουσείο Αδελαΐδας Α.Ε. και το Festival Hellenika.

Σπάνιες φωτογραφίες από το αρχείο του Ελληνικού Πολιτιστικού Κέντρου στην Τασκένδη του Ουζμπεκιστάν
Στο τέλος του Ελληνικού Εμφυλίου Πολέμου (1946-9) 12.000 πολιτικοί πρόσφυγες απομακρύνθηκαν κρυφά από την Αλβανία στην ΕΣΣΔ και εγκαταστάθηκαν στην Τασκένδη του Ουζμπεκιστάν. Ο Στάλιν ενορχήστρωσε την κίνηση όπου οι μαχητές εγκαταστάθηκαν σε πρώην στρατόπεδα αιχμαλώτων και σε πολλούς δεν επετράπη να επιστρέψουν στην Ελλάδα μέχρι την αμνηστία το 1982.

Με ειδική προσκεκλημένη ομιλήτρια, η διάσημη βραβευμένη δημοσιογράφος Ελένη Βατσικοπούλου.

Exhibition: “GREEK COSTUME – Traditional and Life”

An axhibition of beautiful Greek traditional and everyday clothing made and worn by our families and ancestors. The costumes in the exhibition were donated by Greek immigrants who came to Australia. They are family heirlooms and by donating them to the Museum, they have given us the opportunity to admire them all, not only in this exhibition but also in future exhibitions. Some of the costumes are donated by museums located in Greece and were donated to the the Greek Museum of Adelaide as recognition and support of the Greek Museum of Adelaide.

Our sponsors: City of West Torrens, Omega Foods and Radio Melodia Adelaide.

Launch day: Tuesday 3 June, (6:00pm – 8:30pm). The exhibition will be opened formally by Dr Alexandra Theodoropoulou, the Consul General of Greece in South Australia.  At this day will be served: wine, coffee, tea, soft drinks, snacks and baked sweets. Free entrance.

Lecture: “The Timeless Homeric Odyssey”

Εκδήλωση Ελληνικού Μουσείου και του Festival Hellenika παρουσιάζεται από την Chrysoula Melissinaki, MPhil (Μάστερ στη Φιλοσοφία, Πανεπιστήμιο Κρήτης)
Η Οδύσσεια ενέπνευσε για αιώνες επιστήμονες, φιλοσόφους, ποιητές, ιστορικούς. Αμέτρητοι συγγραφείς και διανοούμενοι έχουν αντλήσει από το έργο του Ομήρου-Βιργίλιου, του Δάντη, του Σαίξπηρ, του Θερβάντες. Σε κάθε ιστορική περίοδο η επίδραση της «ΟΔΥΣΣΕΙΑΣ» είναι πάντα παρούσα.

Η «ΟΔΥΣΣΕΙΑ» έχει κερδίσει τον θαυμασμό της ανθρωπότητας για αιώνες και έχει διατηρήσει τη θέση της ως αριστούργημα της ομοιοκαταληξίας. Είναι η «ΟΔΥΣΣΕΙΑ» ένα κλασικό και «διαχρονικό ποίημα»; Γιατί αυτό το «Επικό Ποίημα» θεωρείται «Διαχρονικό»; Ποιες ανθρωπιστικές αξίες υποστηρίζουν αυτή την άποψη; Ποια είναι η αξία της μελέτης της «ΟΔΥΣΣΕΙΑΣ» του Ομήρου, ακόμη και στον σύγχρονο κόσμο;

Book presentation: “Hellenic Dreaming – Greek Australian Stories”

Inc. – OEEGA and Festival Hellenika and Hellenic Studies Foundation.

Αυτή είναι η παρουσίαση του βιβλίου «Hellenic Dreaming: Greek-Australian Stories» στη Νότια Αυστραλία που επιμελήθηκε η Δρ. Έλεν Βατσικοπούλου (σε συνεργασία με την Ελληνορθόδοξη Κοινότητα της Νέας Νότιας Ουαλίας). Η ομιλία θα συζητήσει τι οδήγησε την παραγωγή αυτού του βιβλίου που παρουσιάζει τις εμπειρίες και τις ιστορίες πολλών γνωστών Ελλήνων Αυστραλών πρώτης και δεύτερης γενιάς. Θα ακούσουμε τη Δρ Ελένη Βατσικοπούλου, την Κέι Παύλου και την καθηγήτρια Μάρθα Αυγουστίνο. Θα περιλαμβάνει επίσης την ανακοίνωση των νικητών για τον διαγωνισμό εκπόνησης μαθητών Γυμνασίου που διεξήχθη νωρίτερα φέτος – στοχεύοντας στο να μεγαλώσουμε ως Ελληνοαυστραλοί τρίτης και τέταρτης γενιάς. Ο πρώτος νικητής θα διαβάσει το δοκίμιό του.
