The \u201cGreek Museum of Adelaide Inc.\u201d is a not\u2011for\u2011profit association established in May 2019 (Registration Number: A43958). The purpose of the Museum is to promote and preserve Greek culture in Australia. The proposed Museum will host exhibitions of traditional Greek artefacts, ranging from historical replicas and cultural objects to more recent items, including collections of coins, traditional costumes, and musical instruments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Museum is currently in its early stages, and we are in the process of collecting exhibits. Although we do not yet have a permanent building, we are planning to present our first exhibitions in hired venues.<\/p>\n\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

To establish and operate a museum and an information resource centre (library) that is open to the public for the benefit of the South Australian community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To collect, preserve, restore, and display documents and memorabilia relating to the family and migration history and genealogy of Hellenes in Australasia, as well as traditional objects, heirlooms, and items of Hellenic origin or association. These may include, but are not limited to, costumes and uniforms, woven fabrics, tools, replicas of archaic art, and any other objects that, in the opinion of the Committee, are worthy of preservation and display within the Greek Museum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To establish and operate a reference and lending library and a research centre focusing on Hellenism, including but not limited to historical photographs, maps, books, and other publications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To promote, encourage, and foster the study, education, research, and understanding of Hellenism.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

The Museum holds a collection of old textiles and embroideries brought to Australia by Greek immigrants. These items have now become part of the Greek\u2011Australian cultural heritage of our country.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Support the new Greek Museum by becoming a member and staying informed about upcoming activities and exhibitions. You may also choose to become more actively involved as a volunteer, or to lend or donate artefacts of your own. Now is the time to open those old trunks and allow forgotten treasures to see the light of day once more. Bring them to the Museum to be admired by a wider audience, rather than risk them being forgotten, misplaced, or\u2014worse\u2014discarded as clutter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the future, the Museum will welcome visits from schools, as the teaching of ancient Greek history is part of the South Australian curriculum. There will also be dedicated spaces for educational activities and programs related to Greek culture. The photo shows an exhibition held at the West Torrens Auditorium (Hamra Library) in 2023, where students visited and engaged with the displays.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
